Durham Amtrak StationDurham Station
400 West Chapel Hill Street

Station Description: In July 1996, the City of Durham and the NCDOT opened a new interim station downtown. Paid for by state and local funds, the current station uses a double-wide modular unit to provide a ticket office, a waiting room, baggage handling and restrooms. It is staffed by a full-time Amtrak station agent and is fully ADA accessible. The station replaced a small shelter that served the city for six years.

New Durham Station: The new Durham station will be located in the historic Walker Warehouse, adjacent to several other historic Liggett & Myers buildings, which are being refurbished for residential, entertainment and office. Convenience, pedestrian traffic flow and safety as well as the city’s revitalization program make this an ideal location for the station.

Durham's new Transit Center located across the street from the interim station is under construction with expected completion in August 2009.
