Hamlet Station
2 Main Street
The Historic Hamlet Depot is the only Victorian Queen Anne passenger station in North Carolina. It was built in 1900, as a passenger station and division headquarters for the Seaboard Air Line RR. To preserve the historic depot, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the city of Hamlet relocated and renovated the station, which serves as an anchor for the downtown. It has become a catalyst for the continued redevelopment of the Hamlet Historic District. The city of Hamlet dedicated the renovated depot to long-time area NCDOT Board of Transportation member, G.R. Kindley. The depot received the Historic Preservation Society of North Carolina's 2005 Carraway Award for outstanding preservation work by public agencies.
