Selma Station

Building Description. The station was built in 1924 as a joint passenger station for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and the Southern Railway. The masonry structure, designed by A.M. Griffin, contained two waiting rooms and a tower for railroad signal operators.
Project Overview: In 1981, a curved connection track was built on the backside of the building to allow Amtrak trains to move from North/South to East/West tracks. The station is now completely surrounded by track. The station is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
Renovation began in October 2001 and was completed in November 2002. The renovated waiting room accommodates 40 passengers and includes telephones and a vending area, and exhibits on local town and railroad history.
Financing: $3,418,000 Enhancement funds including 80% federal, 10% state and 10% local match.
