Reservations are required on all passenger trains in North Carolina. If space is available, ticket agents will sell tickets up to 30 minutes before train departs. Plan on arriving at the station 30 minutes to one hour before train's departure time. If checking baggage, arrive one hour before departure. Seats are not preassigned. - Call Amtrak or your travel agent. Amtrak sales agents are available 24 hours a day. Call Amtrak's reservation office at 1-800 USA RAIL (1-800-872-7245). With a 10-day lead time, Amtrak will mail your ticket to you.
- Purchase the ticket from the conductor on board the train at attended or unstaffed locations. You still need to call in advance for reservations. Cash, major credit cards accepted. A surcharge may be levied if a full-service Amtrak ticket office was open at the point of departure.
- Red Reservation Phones are available at Burlington, High Point, Kannapolis, Salisbury, Cary and Selma for a direct connection to Amtrak Reservations.

There is increased security at stations and onboard trains.
- Any guest buying a ticket on board, must provide photo ID to the conductor.
- Guests must present a photo ID to check baggage and send packages via train.
- If you see unattended bags, suspicious activities, or a safety hazard around the train equipment or at stations, please report it immediately to train or station personnel, Amtrak Police at 1-800-331-0008 or call 911.
Discounted Fares
Up to two children age 2-15 travel for half when accompanied by an adult. Children under 2 travel free. Senior citizen (age 62+) discounts (15% off lowest fare) are available seven days a week. Active duty military receive 15% discount. College students who are members of the Student Advantage program receive 15% off Amtrak fares throughout the country. Call 1-800-96-AMTRAK to enroll.
NC MULTIRIDER is a convenient ticket that lets you travel anytime and saves you 10-15% off the lowest ticket price. Buy one ticket for 6 or 10 one-way rides for travel between paired cities within North Carolina on the Amtrak Piedmont and Carolinian trains. No reservations are required. Just present your ticket to the conductor and climb on board.
NOTE: NC Multirider tickets are on sale now at staffed Amtrak stations in Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, Raleigh, Rocky Mount or Wilson.
