Improvements Made to Rail Crossing in Greensboro
RALEIGHThe N.C. Department of Transportation has upgraded crossing signals and installed four-quadrant gates at the intersection of Holts Chapel Road and the Norfolk Southern tracks in Greensboro.
The $203,300 project was fully paid for with federal funds as part of NCDOT’s Sealed Corridor project. Norfolk Southern and the city will split the cost to maintain the crossing. More than 12 passenger and freight trains travel through the crossing daily at speeds up to 79 miles per hour.
This Guilford County project is part of a comprehensive statewide program to enhance highway safety by adding or improving signals and gates at public railroad crossings. Mechanical warning devices are now in place at nearly 2,400 of North Carolina's 4,182 public crossings.
