Improvements Made to Rail Crossing Near Rural Hall
RALEIGHThe N.C. Department of Transportation has installed crossing signals and gates at the intersection of Moore Road (State Road 3969) and the Yadkin Valley Railroad tracks near Rural Hall.
The $145,150 project was paid for with 90 percent federal funds and 10 percent state funds from NCDOT. Yadkin Valley Railroad and NCDOT will split the cost to maintain the crossing. Two freight trains travel through the crossing daily, at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour.
NCDOT has completed similar signal and gate improvements to the Donnaha Road (S.R. 1600), Antioch Church Road (S.R. 1635) and Tuttle Road (S.R. 1639) crossings.
These Forsyth County projects are part of a comprehensive statewide program to enhance highway safety by adding or improving signals and gates at public railroad crossings. Mechanical warning devices are now in place at nearly 2,400 of North Carolina's 4,182 public crossings.
