Improvements Made to Rail Crossing Near Rural Hall
RALEIGHThe N.C. Department of Transportation recently revised the crossing signals and installed crossing gates at the intersection of Donnaha Road (State Road 1600) and the Yadkin Valley Railroad tracks near Rural Hall.
The $138,881 project was paid for with 90 percent federal funds and 10 percent state funds from NCDOT. Yadkin Valley Railroad and the state will split the cost to maintain the crossing. Two freight trains travel through the crossing daily at speeds up to 25 miles per hour.
This Forsyth County project is part of a comprehensive statewide program to enhance highway safety by adding or improving signals and gates at public railroad crossings. Varying types of mechanical warning devices are now in place at nearly 2,400 of North Carolina's 4,182 public crossings.
