NCDOT Permanent Closing Two Railroad Crossings in Cary
RALEIGH The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close Reedy Creek Road (State Road 1650) and West Street railroad crossings in Cary on Aug. 27. Signs alerting motorists of the closures will be posted beginning July 27.
Both crossings were identified for closure as part of an effort to reduce the number of redundant or unsafe rail/highway at-grade crossings throughout the state.
Traffic at the Reedy Creek Road crossing will be directed to use Northeast Maynard Road as an alternative route. Motorists at the West Street crossing will be directed to Dixon Avenue or Harrison Street.
When possible, the department works with communities to close or consolidate dangerous or redundant crossings. Since 1993, NCDOT has closed more than 121 public at-grade rail crossings.
