Santa Decides to Park Sleigh and Ride the Rails
RALEIGH Santa is parking his sleigh so he can ride the rails through North Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Santa Claus will be making special trips through the state on North Carolina’s Amtrak trains, the Piedmont (train 73) and the Carolinian (train 80) between Raleigh and Charlotte. Passengers can join Santa on these early morning out-and-back excursions, or make a day of it and enjoy other fun holiday events in any one of the cities along the route.
“Riding the train and taking advantage of some leisurely time with Santa is a great way to get in the holiday spirit,” said Patrick B. Simmons, director of North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Rail Division. “It is also a great way to sample our passenger train service through the heart of the state.”
Passengers who are interested in the Santa Train Raleigh excursion can board train 73 southbound for Greensboro then make the return trip via train 80 northbound. Passengers who want to ride the Santa Train Charlotte can board train 80 northbound for Salisbury then return via train 73 southbound.
