The North Carolina Department of Transportation has completed the following tasks as part of the Sealed Corridor project since our last report to you in October 2001 (all involve Norfolk Southern Railway, unless otherwise noted):

Construction authorization pending railroad agreements:

  • Longer gate arms at Gillespie Street, in Greensboro, Crossing 722 954R, Milepost H 1.45;
  • 4 quadrant gates at SR 1322 (Swift Avenue), in Durham, Crossing 735 223X, Milepost H 53.76.

Construction was authorized at the following locations:

  • Longer gate arms and a train activated warning flasher at SR 2819 (McLeansville Road), in McLeansville, Crossing 722 976R, Milepost H 8.02;

  • SR 1397 (Winecoff Avenue), in Concord, Crossing 724 415J,Milepost Main 354.7

Construction was authorized for pilot projects at the following Private Vehicular Access locations under the Private Crossing Safety Initiative (PCSI):

  • Byrdsville Road, near Hillsborough, Crossing 735 189T, Milepost H 43.89
  • Long Beverage, in Morrisville, Crossing 734 751V, Milepost H 67.75

Other Issues and Notes:

  • Field studies are underway for the High Point Traffic Separation Study. This study involves the following 4 crossings:
    • W. Grimes Street, in High Point, Crossing 722 337X, Milepost Main 299.79;
    • Taylor Avenue, in High Point, Crossing 722 335J, Milepost Main 299.96;
    • West Point Avenue, in High Point, Crossing 722 334C,Milepost Main 300.17;
    • Prospect Street, in High Point, Crossing 722 332N, Milepost Main 300.73.
  • Concrete crossing surfaces have been installed at the following 2 crossings as part of the implementation phase of the South End Traffic Separation Study:
    • SR 1210 (East Ryder Avenue), in Landis, Crossing 724 394T, Milepost Main 345.61;
    • SR 1394 (Mcgill Avenue), in Concord, Crossing 724 418E, Milepost Main 355.12.
  • Engineering is expected from CSX Transportation for the health monitoring system and LED light units by April 2002 for the section between Cary and Raleigh (Phase III).
