The North Carolina Department of Transportation has completed the following tasks as part of the Sealed Corridor project since our last report to you in August 2002 (all involve Norfolk Southern Railway, unless otherwise noted):

Construction was authorized at the following locations:

• 4 quadrant gates at SR 1160 (Shamrock Road), near Harrisburg,
  Crossing 715 328G, Milepost Main 362.88;
• Redesigned cantilever and gate at SR 1706 (East 1st Street), in Kannapolis,
  Crossing 724 400U, Milepost Main 348.10;
• Longer gates at SR 2724 (Wagoner Road), near Gibsonville, Crossing 722 984H, Milepost H 12.81;
  
• Longer gate arms at SR 1402 (Mattress Factory Road), near Mebane,
  Crossing 735 474S, Milepost H 32.79;
  
• Far-side flashers at US 15 Bus (Mangum Street), in Durham, Crossing 735 231P, Milepost H 55.14;
  
• Longer gate arms at Plum Street, in Durham, Crossing 630 472K,
  Milepost H 56.40;
  
• Longer gate arms at Driver Street, in Durham, Crossing 630 471D,
  Milepost H 56.70;
  
• 4 quadrant gates at SR 1652 (North Harrison Avenue), in Cary,
  Crossing 734 755X, Milepost H 72.58;
  
• 4 quadrant gates at SR 1312 (Academy Street), in Cary,
  Crossing 734 756E, Milepost H 72.70.
  

Construction was completed at the following locations:

• 4 quadrant gates at SR 2052 (East Kerr Street), in Salisbury,
  Crossing 715 290M, Milepost H 333.57;
  
• Longer gates at Gillespie Street, in Greensboro, Crossing 722 954R,
  Milepost H 1.45;
  
• 4 quadrant gates at Main Street, in Burlington, Crossing 722 817J,
  Milepost H 21.36;
  
• Longer gates at SR 1940 (Gibson Road), near Mebane, Crossing 735 464L,
  Milepost H 29.36;
  
• 4 quadrant gates at SR 1976 (Lake Latham Road), near Mebane,
  Crossing 735 465T, Milepost H 29.83;
  
• Longer gates at Byrdsville Road, PVA, near Hillsborough, Crossing 735 189T,
  Milepost H 43.89;
  
• 4 quadrant gates at SR 1121 (Cornwallis Road), in Durham,
  Crossing 734 742W, Milepost H 62.83;
  

The following crossing was closed:

• SR 2051 (Unity Street), in Thomasville, Crossing 722 328Y,
  Milepost Main 304.56.
  

Other items of note:

• On 1/16/03 construction funding was approved for the Norwalk Street Ext. in Greensboro. Upon completion (anticipated 8/31/03) the following crossings will be closed:
  
  • Rucker Street in Greensboro, Crossing 722 365B, Milepost Main 288.01
    
  • Rail Street in Greensboro, Crossing 722 364U, Milepost Main 288.26
    
  • Boston Road in Greensboro, Crossing 722 362F, Milepost Main 288.47
    
    
• The Private Crossing Safety Initiative (PCSI) is in the final phase of compiling all
  technical data and preparing the final recommendations report.
  
  
• We anticipate receipt of the Rail View camera system equipment within the next 60 to 90 days, at which time installation and testing will begin on the three state owned locomotives.
