Dear Mrs. Ward:

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has completed the following tasks as part of the EVA Signal System Experiment:
  • The EVA Signal equipment has been shipped to the railroad’s depot.
  • The project has been delayed waiting for the Power Company to supply power to the site. The Power Company will have a power drop installed at the site by July 20.
  • NCSU has developed the driver and train crew surveys to be used for the driver behavior survey.
  • The NCDOT has approved the surveillance equipment to be used at the site. The equipment will record 24 hours of crossing activation. We intend to record the crossing when the train reaches the approach until the engine and several cars have crossed through the crossing.
  • Installaiton of the below ground EVA Signal equipment should occur in early August to be followed by the complete installation in September.
  • The NCDOT has installed drainage pipes, placed necessary fill and trimmed/cut trees as needed.

Please contact me at (919) 733-5587 if you have any questions.

Yours very truly,
Jason L. Field, P.E.
Crossing Project Engineer
