Public Involvement (Milestones)
The NCDOT has held numerous meetings with Rocky Mount officials, community leaders, and affected neighborhood residents to discuss the proposed rail crossing enhancements. The purpose of these meetings has been to explain the Traffic Separation Study process, address concerns, and to develop a project that is a win-win for the community, City of Rocky Mount, NCDOT and railroads.

September 2001
Representatives from NCDOT Rail Division present initial findings to City of Rocky Mount, police, fire and EMS representatives.
October 2001
Four public information meetings are held to share preliminary findings and receive comments on the impact to neighborhoods, schools, businesses and individuals.
December 2001
City, railroad and NCDOT representatives gather to review comments received from the public.
June 2004
NCDOT completes $186,570 in upgrades to revise warning signals and installed crossing gates at the Halifax Road (SR 1544) railroad crossing
January 2005
NCDOT completes $202,824 in upgrades to crossing signals and installed gates at the Piedmont Street crossing of the Nash County Railroad tracks.
February 2005
NCDOT completes $172,157 in upgrades to install crossing gates and signals at the Nottingham Street crossing of the Nash County Railroad
